More important than tea

I haven’t done anything on this blog for days, so this morning I did a search for tea news. There is, in fact, news: tea pickers in Nepal who make less then $3 a day are on strike at the Himalaya Mahalaxmi Tea Estate. Elsewhere, a general tea production decline is driving up prices. And then, of course, the royal wedding is fueling demand for tea as British wannabes proliferate throughout the world but mostly in America.

Any of those topics would make a fine blog, but the fact is I’m on a long-overdue vacation with my son and would like to focus on him for a while. So often I’ve spent time with him and been distracted, thinking about other things. Trying not to do that takes discipline.

So as I get up (at 6:30 a.m.) and pour myself a cup of the jasmine green I brought along and made last night, I’m not thinking so much of the tea as of just spending time with my son. Which is the way it ought to be. I’ll return to the blog soon.
